Nepenthes bongso produces large, tubby pitchers with dark, widely flared peristomes.  The pitchers of Nepenthes bongso vary in color, however this particular clone produces deep red or purple pitchers, even when the plant is young.  

The name "Bongso" refers to the Indonesian legend of Putri Bungsu (youngest daughter,) who is the spirit guardian of Mount Marapi.
